TOJAL – TESOL OMAN JOURNAL OF LANGUAGE AND APPLIED LINGUISTICS

General requirements for submission of manuscripts.

  1. Please read the paper submission guidelines before submitting your manuscript to TOJAL.
  2. Manuscript should be submitted in MS word format
  3. The abstract of the paper must be between 150 and 200 words in length.
  4. Manuscript must be 6000 to 8000 words excluding references and appendices.
  5. The paper must include 3-5 key words (listed in alphabetical order)
  6. Author(s) should provide a cover page with full name, affiliation, email address, and phone number.
  7. The paper must be double-spaced in 12 point font (Times New Roman)
  8. Author(s) should submit a concise bio in about 50 words.
  9. Author(s) must declare that the manuscript submitted for publication is an original work.
  10. Author(s) should read carefully the comments and suggestions given by the reviewers and make changes accordingly on the manuscript.

Guidelines for authors

  1. The manuscript submitted to TOJAL should not have been submitted to any other journals for review / publication.
  2. Author(s) should present the original data accurately.
  3. Author(s) should follow the latest APA guidelines for citation and reference.
  4. Author(s) should check for plagiarism in their paper before submission.

Editors’ Responsibility

  1. Editor(s) work with the TESOL Oman Steering Committee to give a complete shape to the journal.
  2. Editor(s) should make sure that the publication of manuscripts in TOJAL meets the international ethical standards and quality.

Responsibility of the reviewers

  1. Review of the manuscript submitted for publication is an important part of TESOL Oman Journal of Language and Applied Linguistics (TOJAL).
  2. The reviewer should employ an objective, independent, and critical assessment of the manuscript.
  3. The papers shall be sent to at least two reviewers.
  4. Reviewers shall adhere to the time limit agreed to review and send the reviews of the manuscripts.
  5. If reviewers are unable to review the article within the stipulated time, they should notify the editor immediately via email.
  6. Reviewers should keep the reviewed articles confidential.
  7. Reviewers should refrain from personal criticism.
  8. Reviewers should declare any conflict of interest with the articles that they have reviewed prior to accepting the review assignment.
  9. Reviewers must not keep the manuscript for their personal use.

Review procedure

The manuscript submitted for publication will be internally reviewed to check if it meets the basic requirements set by TOJAL. Next, it will be sent to the experts in the field for review. The review may take 4 to 6 weeks.  Once the review is done, the paper with comments/suggestions will be sent to the author to respond to the comments/suggestions within the time limit given by the editor. Based on the reviewers’ reports, the Editor makes the final decision.

Copy right

Once the manuscript is accepted for review and publication, authors must submit a transfer of copyright agreement to TOJLL which provides the journal the permanent right to distribute the paper.  The authors will retain their right.

TOJAL Template for Manuscript submission

TOJAL welcomes research papers that is of qualitative/quantitative or mixed methods in nature.  TOJAL also welcomes review articles, case studies, theoretical papers, and papers that deal with teaching tips based on teaching experience.

If you are submitting a paper, please make sure that your paper:

  1. Deal with the main concepts and theories clearly.
  2. Use a wide range of appropriate sources and integrate the key ideas from the

sources into a coherent and analytical framework.

  • Examine the issues from more than one perspective.
  • Outline and specify the limitations of the main implications of theory for policy and/or practice.
  • Have clear research questions.

Please follow the format below:

  1. Abstract   (150 to 200 words)
  2. Keywords (listed in alphabetical order and in lower case)
  3. Introduction (introduce your topic, research plan, rationale )
  4. Literature review (cite related literature of recent studies, use APA format throughout for quotations)
  5. Method (discuss the method and methodologies adopted in the research paper)
  6. Instruments (discuss the data collection instruments and the reason for their choice)
  7. Procedure (how the study was conducted-the stages)
  8. Results and discussion (present the findings of the study objectively)
  9. Conclusion (present the conclusions drawn based on the findings)
  10. References (Follow latest APA format)
  11. Appendices (supplementary materials that help provide a comprehensive understanding of the research)
